A New Brain
During millions of years of evolution the
brain has developed in three different layers, one on top of the other, sometimes
called the Triune Brain. It consists
of the reptilian, the mammalian and the human brain (neocortex),
each one corresponding to a major evolutionary step. These three brains support
what I call a survival mind, a feeling mind and a thinking mind respectively.
But why believe that evolution has come to a
stop with the Triune Brain and the thinking mind? Evidence show, that
there is a huge potential latent in the part of the brain we call the frontal
cortex. US researchers, Richard Davidson and Andrew Newberg have clearly shown
that the frontal part of the brain (the frontal lobes) can function at a much
higher level during higher states of consciousness achieved through meditation.
I believe that when the latent potential of
the frontal lobes is actualized by evolution, it will support what I call the
fourth level of consciousness, also called the awakened state. In order for
this to happen, more energy must be fed to the frontal cortex. According to
Eastern masters, that energy must come from what they call Kundalini.
When the frontal lobes have sufficiently matured
through evolution and have received enough energy, more of the nerve fibres
connecting the right and the left cerebral hemisphere open up and a total
integration of the two brain halves begins. This will be an integration between
logic and intuition and between the masculine and the feminine.
Thus, I foresee that a new level of brain
organization will evolve on top of the old one providing the necessary hardware
for a higher consciousness. When this happens, a new species of ‘front
brain–right hemisphere’ people will emerge. The activation and integration
of the right hemisphere in these people will transform their consciousness to
include more intuition, creativity, love, empathy and compassion which will enable
humanity to create a new and better world.
